At BMW, the driver is at the heart of every technological development. BMW driver assistance systems are designed to allow you, the driver, to shape assisted driving up to a certain extent. You can influence the system individually in Neue Klasse models according to your wishes by lightly intervening in steering, braking and acceleration, without switching off driver assistance. This creates an almost symbiotic interaction between driver and vehicle, along with an even smoother driving experience.
Your BMW can support you in many driving tasks if you want it. It is capable of staying in lane and maintaining distance from the vehicle ahead in stressful situations, such as in busy stop-and-go traffic. However, you can also lightly accelerate, brake and steer, without completely deactivating the systems and having to subsequently reset them. This makes driving easier for you while keeping you involved and responsible. You can already benefit from this symbiotic driving experience with BMW Driving Assistance Plus equipment.

If you wish, the AI-supported systems will help you to look for a parking space.¹ Your BMW can also perform the parking process , monitored by you. If your BMW is equipped with Parking Assistant Professional, you can pause the parking manoeuvre, get out, and complete the parking manoeuvre on your smartphone from outside the vehicle. This is particularly convenient in very tight parking spaces when it is difficult to get in or out of the car – assistance precisely designed to meet your needs.
You can experience BMW Symbiotic Drive in BMW Neue Klasse models with Operating System X and the optional BMW Driving Assistant Plus, starting with the BMW iX3. These models feature the latest development advances, such as cooperative steering, a cooperative accelerator and other intelligent assistance functions, resulting in harmonious, intuitive interaction between driver and driver assistance systems.
The seamless interaction results from the combination of modern assistance technology and the active involvement of the driver. BMW Symbiotic Drive continuously detects and interprets the driver’s intentions by monitoring what they are looking at or paying attention to via the interior camera, for example. Importantly, not every driver action leads to the deactivation of an assistance function. The driver can intuitively intervene at any time, while the supporting functions continue to assist the driving task in a harmonious way. The result is a driving experience that feels natural, smooth and fully controlled.
